Cr2 artist Chuckie beats Armin van Buuren and Tiësto at Dutch TMF Awards

On Saturday the 4th of July 2009, Dutch DJ/producer Chuckie had the honour to receive the award for “Best Dance Artist” at the annual TMF Awards, hosted by Dutch biggest music video broadcaster TMF, a MTV Networks company. After he survived the nomination round containing a extensive list of Dutch dance artists, Chuckie ultimately found himself in the top 4 nominees with colleagues such as a.o. Armin van Buuren and Tiësto. By winning the TMF Dance Award, Chuckie underlines his hugely successful year and instantly delivered him the status of “most popular dance artist in The Netherlands”.

Chuckie experienced an amazing year in which he reached some personal mile stones. His performance at Sensation in the Amsterdam ArenA, playing alongside David Guetta during F*** Me I’m Famous in Pacha Ibiza and in Amsterdam, the many international projects and remixes he took on due to the global success of his hit singles Let The Bass Kick and Aftershock (Can’t Fight The Feeling) and of course his very own sold out 20.000+ Dirty Dutch event.

A bizarre detail of winning the TMF Dance Award; Chuckie had to defeat the number one and number two DJ’s in the world - respectively Armin van Buuren and Tiësto - on their own Dutch turf. Winning this award is a recognition of the ever increasing popularity of Chuckie’s distinctive Dirty Dutch sound, momentarily spreading the globe like an unstoppable virus.

After the many obligatory photo shoots and interviews for the Dutch press, Chuckie reacted: “The past year has been one big rollercoaster ride and winning this award really feels like the icing on the cake but believe me, this is only the beginning. We have some fantastic things lined up for the near future. But first and foremost, I’m gonna party my ass off!”

Next to performances by international super groups such as N.E.R.D. and the Black Eyed Peas, Chuckie closed off the main stage at the TMF Awards with a spectacular DJ set in which he performed his single Aftershock (Can’t Fight The Feeling) live. The video for this single is currently on rotation on TMF.

Cr2's Mark Brown hooks up with Def Mix legend David Morales in Ibiza. Mark is in Ibiza promoting his remake of Morales classic 'Needin U' which he has re-touched for 2009 along with Adam Shaw. This is the first time that Morales and his Def Mix camp (Frankie Knuckles and Satoshi Tomiie) have given the clearance for a new version of the 1998 anthem, which was released on Manifesto Records under David Morales Presents The Face 'Needin U'.

Help for Dance labels trying to beat piracy of their music

We've just found out about a new company that seems to have quickly gained support from many independent dance labels who are striving to protect their releases from being shared illegally across illegal MP3 sites and blogs - a huge problem for the smaller dance labels, and one that is going to see labels unable to continue providing fans with fresh new music unless things change quickly.

RipBlock.com essentially tackles piracy from the root of the problem, by conducting ongoing comprehensive scans of any blogs, forums and/or file share sites that are hosting or providing links to illegal downloads of your release.

RipBlock’s service includes:

• Scanning the web for your release
• Reporting any illegal content and monitoring its removal
• Compiling a full report every two weeks, detailing all removed content and all offending usernames

A standard scan lasts for two weeks and costs from £50 / 53 euro / $78 per release.

We're about to test this service for ourselves, so we'll update you in a couple of weeks to let you know what our thoughts are on their service.
Other labels already using the service include Cocoon, Bedrock, Border Community, Mothership, Skint and Rekids.

Danny Freakazoid Returns!!

Danny Freakazoid was discovered back in 2005 by Cr2 A&R manager Spencer Parker, and many would say that Danny was at the forefront of producing some of the best music that quickly was tagged 'Electro House' and became one of the most popular genres of dance music over the last 2-3 years. Danny is from Switzerland, and has already released an artist album on Cr2 called 'Freakazoid' which contains classic tracks such as 'Discount' and 'Teken'. Well, after a year or so locked away in his studio, Danny has returned with a whole load of new music, and a slightly more mature sound.
